The Kurd refugees
The Kurd refugees’ wave of landings in Sicily, in
Apulia and in Calabria, is not only due to the search of
a job, but especially to the immediate risk of losing their
own life that thousands of Iraqi and Turkish Kurdistan people
run, every day, since the Turkish Army’s attacks have
begun again: these attacks involve unarmed people as well
as Kurd soldiers. This is a politic question after all,
but it is also something more: it is an organized criminality.
The Turkish mafia, indeed, profits a lot from the organization
of this “hope trips”, taking advantage of Kurd
refugee’s despair and lying down on the impunity granted
by Kurd authorities who don’t do anything to stop
this human beings’ traffic, that, in a way or in another,
reminds the slave trader’s ships of two centuries
ago. That is unbearable, whereas the phenomenon is assuming
proportions such as a biblical exodus.
The ships full of desperate people are more and more numerous;
they are ships in bad conditions that run the risk of sinking
at the first storm and that arrive at the Sicilian and Calabrian
shores. Although the Custom Officers’ and the Costal
Guards’ work, although the use of sophisticated technologies
to control the arrival of clandestine ships into the territorial
waters, there are several ships staying beyond the territorial
waters and awaiting for discharging the refugees.
This is a serious problem because the Turkish mafia enriches
with the few savings of Kurd peasants who escape from gun-shots
and machine-guns. Then, the sending away from Kurd territories
on foot through Anatolia, supports the project of ethnic
cleaning of Ankara government that want to make Kurdistan,
Turkish in manners.
It would be necessary that the mass-media acquaint the citizens
with all that’s happening, and it would also be necessary
that the Italian Government operates in Turkey and in the
International Organs in order to make attempts to resolve
the Kurd problem as well as to break off the Turkish mafia
organisation, and not to pass this tragedy over in silence.
However, it would also be necessary that the Kurd refugees
are recognized as political refugees.
Azadì, cooperating with other associations to help
the refugees coming in Italy, has organized a task force
to face this problem.
We also ask for the cooperation of other associations in
order to face that problem.
