Introduction
Azadì (Freedom) is the humanitarian and independent
association for the solidarity with Kurd people; it has
been founded in Catania in 1993 and it is registered in
the General Provincial Registry of the voluntary service
organizations. His main purpose is the solidarity with the
Kurd people so that “the Kurd tragedy” goes
further the press indifference, the public opinion, the
International organizations, and is aimed at getting Kurd
people to have the right to exist.
The Kurd tragedy, which the International community is looking
at, lacks a global political solution. Information about
Kurd people’s reality, (independently from the national
borders where they live, and thanks to exhibitions, discussions,
meetings, concerts, shows), is the non-violent way of peace
instigating the National and International organizations,
that are the subjects deputed to put an end to the continuous
slaughter (women and children included!) in the Kurdistan.
The Gulf War has led the Kurd tragedy, for the first time,
to the public opinion, to the international policy and it
itself has become one of the central problem of the Middle
Est. However the Kurd tragedy is ancient and the list of
the slaughters undergone is long. In the past, the International
Community has been impassive at the Kurd people’s
slaughter committed by Iran, Iraq, Syria and Turkey.
The problem was not born with the Gulf Crisis, but it has
remote roots in the history, dating back to the last century
European Colonialism. Then, largely, the present pains of
the Kurd people is due to the great powers of Europe, that
the day after the First World War had split up the Kurdistan
and had given the destiny of the Kurd people to governments
more and more repressive and dictatorial.
Today, the capture of Abdulla Ocalan, the Kurd people’s
leader, is a real betrayal with regard to the Kurd people
and its cause. Regarding to this fact, the Association expresses
a great worry to his destiny.
Any way of humanitarian help is precious, nevertheless
the real solution to face this very heavy situation is the
reintegration of the people in his normal, social and economical
good order.
To cooperate to the Kurdistan reconstruction is one of
the purpose of the association, which in his active years
has realized some solidarity expeditions in the refugee
fields, creating also some projects of school improvements
and of help to the peasant micro-economy; but especially
it has created a real solid bridge leaving the geographic
distance out of consideration.
The Association’s behaviour is often restricted to
some Kurdistan areas because of the political and military
fights of the several Kurd parties that make rather difficult
and almost impossible the passage of volunteers in some
of the refugee fields.
